One immediately recognizes Hecker's sound palette: analog-sounding tones and retro sine waves manipulated and treated in ways that can only be digital, yet remain true to a certain electronic pioneer aesthetic. Where this album differs from previous ones is in the way the material has been arranged and is being presented. Exit the 20-minute epics and psycho-acoustically sickening drones: PV Trecks consists of 33 short segments, all very dynamic, hyperactive and - truth be told - entertaining . PV Tracks, on the other hand, could use some mincing. It does not, on any level, work as an LP-its entirely shapeless at the macro level, utterly engaging at the micro. Computer F. Mastered By Denis Blackham. What to think of these micro-tracks that make up Hecker's PV TRECKS Well, for one, taken together, the tracks build to a creepy, post-industrial soundscape, where all the machines are broken, but continue to whir anyway. The pieces move from more rhythmic pieces to pure tonal experiments that can sometimes challenge your endurance of high frequencies. Little burps of noise punctuate the flow of the longer atmospheric drawls and moments of silence, keeping your ears on edge. PV Trecks consists of 33 tracks totaling 34 minutes. A number of cuts are less than 30 seconds you would be well advised not to buy it by the track, just a few squiggles, some chirps that turn quickly into grinding noises, and then it's over. Unlike Sun Pandämonium, there's nothing epic or particularly intimidating here some of the sketches have a certain playfulness, while others contain chunks of silence. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Hecker's music, when stripped of Sun Pandämonium's thrilling sense of sonic assault, gets boring after a while. There seems to be a complex underlying structure here, which might be fun to decode for the same reason people get wrapped up in jigsaw puzzles. Price for album: . Discount: 20. Burn CD. What to think of these micro-tracks that make up Hecker's PV TRECKS? Well, for one, taken together, the tracks build to a creepy, post-industrial soundscape, where all the machines are broken, but continue to whir anyway. The pieces move from more rhythmic pieces to pure tonal experiments that can sometimes challenge your endurance of high frequencies. Little burps of noise punctuate the flow of the longer atmospheric drawls and moments of silence, keeping your ears on edge. It's a challenging listen, though I'm not sure if it's meant to add up to something more than it is.
